School pictures at every age
Ballerinas on gymnasium stages
Ribbons won in spelling bees
A collection of little league trophies
A row of bronzed baby shoes
Mounted together in sets of twos
Her little treasures occupy space
And bring a smile to her lonely face
Pages all yellowed with time
In the children's books left behind
Odd statues molded in clay
Sit on the shelf still today
Dried flowers from someone's prom
Loving poems written to mom
Her little treasures occupy space
And bring a smile to her lonely face
Diplomas on the bedroom wall
Wedding pictures line the hall
Old letters saved in a drawer
To read again when she is bored
Little things, don't seem like much
To her they are a world of love
Her little treasures occupy space
And bring a smile to her lonely face
The TV plays now just for sound
Replacing voices no longer around
An old dog sleeps on a rug nearby
A warm body to hold when she cries
Now she lives in a rocking chair
Pieces of the past surrounding her there
Her little treasures occupy space
And bring a smile to her lonely face
Her little treasures occupy space
Fond memories are every place
They don't come to visit her now
but she remembers it all somehow
She holds them forever in her heart
looks around when teardrops start
Her little treasures occupy space
and bring a smile to her lonely face

(Seriously -- is there anything you can't write??)
Have you thought about entering the Amazon Short Story Contest with this piece?
I thought you'd alter the last line to
"bring tears to her lonely face..."
And all this time, I thought that stuff just sat around collecting dust. I see now it serves a grand purpose.
Another thought too: This woman may be lonely in appearance only, certainly not lonely in her heart where all those memories live.
