For John

 

 

In the night

when shadows come

and we feel alone

and afraid

at the tapping

on the window pane

be still

and you will hear

your heart sing

along with mine

in praise of He

Who smiles on you

and me while tapping

hello you are not alone

for the Lord of Hosts

is with you

and holds your hand

You amaze me. It can take days to months to complete one of my poems to my satisfaction. And even then I feel the poem is still in motion so I will have the urge to adjust and refine.

Patrick, this poem wrote itself. After posting it, I switched off the PC but something kept nagging at my mind - a comment by John on my poem, "Ice" and my reply to him - and I had to come and read it again. Now I understand something he said that puzzled me at the time. See for your self by going to:

Thank you, Carolyn - I don't know John, nor everyone else, nearly as much as I'd like.

I wrote the poem in about 30 seconds and posted it upon reading Ludo's Gather testimonial to John.

Then I felt I should somehow have spent more time on it. But on reflection, I think it best to leave it exactly as is.

Love to John, you and all - peace, brothers, peace. The Lord is with us all.

My Momma told me a long time ago "loved ones will leave you, friends may dessert you but always remember God is with You." Those words were a blessing five and a half years ago when I suddenly found myself alone. He was there, saying He always had been, but I had never reached out to take His hand. When I finally did, all past transgressions, emptiness and heartache vanished. We are fast friends to this day, we speak regularly!

This is one of the most flawless lyrical poems of mystical intent I have ever read. It makes me sad that the same person who flames me every time with a '1' had to do the same thing to you just because you mentioned my name.
But forget about all that.
The point is, Nikola, we should have connected so long ago. I admire your work so much. I am glad that you thought of me at this time. The Lord of Hosts is such a wonderful image for God, and I do believe my hand is being held as well as my heart, through the miracles of blessings such as this poem.
You sent me so much barakah with this--I swear it has helped the treatment.
As a poet, I just had to comment on the subtle and intuitive play of pronouns between 'we, you, me, He' throughout the poem, as well as the soft grace in every line. This is truly masterful work.

John, I haven't been flamed with poison 1s because of you. I've been methodically hit on all postings for a good 4 weeks now. It is of no matter and of even smaller consequence. In all truth, it means absolutely nothing. I just feel sorry for whoever is doing it - such a sad little person who could soar except for his/ her malice. But enough of that.

Indeed, we should have connected before now, but that is rectified. And I'm pleased it is so - for like everyone else, I am a great admirer of your poetry. Keep writing, especially now!

You are being blessed, and the Lord of Hosts does hold your hand, as He does mine and everyone else of good will - we are benediction to each other. Such is Truth.

Liz, forgive me, how on earth did I overlook your comment? It's not trite - it's a lovely compliment. There are times when I write that I feel I am but channeling - a mere scribe. What a beautiful poem you penned for John a year ago when he was going through "his trials". You are indeed a good friend to even strangers you meet in the ether.

Thanks to your spirit table of contents I was able to find this again and enjoy it again, remembering of course how important to me it was back then, a year and two thirds ago, when the doctors told me that I might not live through my treatment of the tumor in my throat. I just want you to know I am always grateful that you thought of me in such dire circumstances, Magi.
John, you are my brother. How could I do less?

God has set your worth and it is His Will that we walk together. Thus I bow to you.
