These really are good lyrics.
One change I'd suggest: drop the last line in each stanza. They work well without those final words.

I kind of wonder if the true intent would be best communicated by dropping what I feel are necessary words. Unless I can actually work with a musician, I guess I'll just keep the words as I originally intended. After all, the collaborative process is a creature of it's own and modifications can be made in that particular context.
