Its the middle of the week. You're tired, hungry and payday is still 10 days away. You don't have to go hungry, though. Conveniently located near four different T stops are the four Anna's Taqueria locations.
Anna's serves delicious, cheap traditional Mexican fare and is the perfect place to stop and grab a quick eat that will fill you up. Get everything from tacos to quesadillas to my personal favorite - the Super Burrito. For under $4, you get a huge flour tortilla steamed and rolled tight with almost two pounds of chicken or beef, beans, salsa, cheese and whatever else you want in there. This is definitely a two-handed meal, and make sure you grab plenty of napkins.
When busy, this place can seem a bit like the Soup Nazi - there is plenty of pressure to know exactly what you want and how you want it, but only because most of the patrons (and there are plenty of them) seem to be regulars. The staff is actually very nice, and happy to customize your meal for you.
Anna's is basically a hole in the wall, and patrons don't go there for the ambiance. While you can usually get a seat, they really pack the hard wooden chairs in there so it might not be the best place for a romantic dinner for two. It is usually pretty clean, though.
Anna's only takes cash, and there's no alcohol served in this restaurant so take your burrito to go if you like to wash it down with a cold Corona or a tasty margarita.
Locations are just off the Green Line (C train) and the Red Line (Porter and Davis stops), so be sure to stop on your way home from work!
