On this Monday, July 17, 2006 State Senator Becky Lourey and Minneapolis developer Tim Baylor have officially filed their candidacy for Governor and Lieutenant Governor at the Secretary of State's office in St. Paul. Read the full announcement here.
"Minnesotans want a leadership change in the Governor's office; leadership with a vision..." Looking forward to a hopeful future, Lourey promised a sharp contrast to Tim Pawlenty in the style and substance of governance. She also stressed the importance of running a positive campaign based on the issues, not personalities and attacks.
Senator Becky Lourey, a nationally recognized health care public policy expert, resides in Kerrick in east-central Minnesota. She has 16 years of legislative experience and currently serves as chair of the Minnesota Senate Health and Family Security Committee.
Tim Baylor is founder and president of JADT Development Group, a builder of residential and commercial developments in the Twin Cities. He also owns and operates two McDonald's franchises located on West Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis and in Robbinsdale. A member of the Morgan State University Athletic Hall of Fame, Baylor also played in the National Football League for the Minnesota Vikings and the Baltimore Colts.
"I want to express my appreciation to Tim Baylor for joining me on this historic Minnesota ticket," Lourey said. "If elected, the Becky Lourey-Tim Baylor administration will work on tearing down social and economic barriers so that every deserving person can achieve their full potential, and move Minnesota to its fullest economic potential."
After Attorney General Mike Hatch received the party endorsement at the DFL Convention last month, Becky Lourey said she would run in the primary election anyway not wanting to "make the mistake we made four years ago." Hatch had made a similar statement indicating that he might also go to the primary.
