saturday we had the most glorious day. we escaped the great heat and humidity after dinner, and drove to lake michigan. oh, the big lake - the place where my soul resides. the water was so warm - we swam for hours. lillie, ed, and my cousin mike walked and walked. i took picture after picture, reveling in the sights and sounds of the beach. waves, continually crashing. pebbles sliding back into the water with each wave, and then being churned up again and spit up a little higher on the sand. the ever-changing light, delighting us all with its playfulness.

lillie, swimming with delight. she's a dolphin, just as i am. we all were in and out of the water, floating, playing a sort of water lacrosse game we've made up, pretend surfing on the boogie boards, lying back and looking at the sky, feeling the waves underneath your body.

and then, the magical sunset. sailboats heading home. the sun sinking further and further into the lake, until finally it was extinguished...leaving us with a glowing sky, darkening as we made our way back up the hill to the car.

Every single one of these photos is stunning! How do you do it? If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Lillie splashing. No - Lillie coming out of the water. No - wait, Lillie at sunset. Oh, I can't decide. I'm going to go read Ed's poem now. Thanks for another delightful glimpse of your world.

I was especially struck by the wooden stairs and the fractured blue hand rail.
love all the glorious water and sunset shots...I hope this ends up in a magazine somewhere for sure! Jessie as always looks adorable! A little Dolphin - and such a beautiful one too - please tell her Auntie M sends her love and sorry I'm so late getting here. I am having some kind of glitzching whatever that g word is on the computer. Thanks again, Miz Jessie and Miz Lillie - each picture and each word totally delights me and makes me wish I were there! Salud,
Something tells me lillie slept well that night. OK. Mom and Dad, too. Nothing like fresh air and water. And imagine -- no one had that gritty feel of dried salt under his or her shirt afterwards...
thanks, sara - yes it is magical!
