Gayle Rivers , is an acknowledged expert & consultant in counter-terrorism, Spec-Ops & "black-ops" for the US military, NATO, USSOCOM & other agencies of that sort. Gayle is also an accomplished author. His book, The Five Fingers, is a definitive piece about Spec-Ops.
This book covers the actions of an "unofficial" join operation in "Spec-Ops" that begins at Ft. Bragg, NC, then to Washington, DC on to London, England Through parts of Europe to Iran with US Army Special Forces, British SAS, Israeli Mossad & IDF all involved up to their eyeballs & beyond in an operation designed to plant egg on the face of the fundamentalist regime of the Ayatollah Khoumeni. The twists & turns of this very realistic look at covert ops (Spec-Ops) is action is an exciting read. The characters are very believable, the insertion of Murphy's Law into the plans & the accidental inclusion of some of London's organized crime into the action all make this a book that one does not want to put down. Not knowing anything about the subject is not something that should concern the reader. You will get an education into the real world of such actions, the people who plan, execute & support such operations including the cold blooded aristocratic politicians, the professional military operators & the dedicated support units that all combine to make successes out of disasters.
The last ruler of Iran prior to the oppressive & fundamental Islamic regimes now current in Iran was seated upon a symbolic throne that was their heritage, the famed "Peacock Throne" of the Shah. What we know about this piece of ornate furniture is that it was not thousand's of years old as claimed, but rather it as made in the early part of the 20th. century after WW-1. It became the symbol of the Shah Reza Pahlavi's empire & rule. He ripped the heart of Persia, Iran from the Turk's previous Ottoman Empire & set himself up as the ruler of that piece of real estate with support from the USA, England, France, etc.
Upon his impending death & the overthrow of his regime he had a safe built by Chubb of London that the current regime has never been able to open. Encased inside this safe & vault is the "Peacock Throne!" This book deals with this as the central theme of the action. How one gets to this throne is a labyrinth of twists & turns that are all action filled with Murphy's Law always hovering close by.
Suffice it to say if you like a mystery, enjoy action, are not squeamish about violent deaths, like a book based on action & intrigue then this book is just for you! If not then stay home, drink your warm milk & hide under your bed when you hear a strange noise….! This book is not for the faint at heart nor the timid!
