tonight we have had such copious rain. the lawn is flooded. the sailboat, flipped over in the wind, is full. and lillie was a little crabby at being cooped up, inside.

so we got our swimsuits on and went and danced on the lawn, as proper water nymphs should do. then we swam, gloriously, wondrously, for an hour. ed came out. we marveled at the varying strengths of the rain - sometimes light, sometimes so hard we could not see. we looked at the water drops on the surface of the lake, and how they disappeared into the water. we played ariel and sebastian, odysseus and the sirens, and the titan goddess tethys. we played singing and ring games. we played london bridge. we tried to stay close to the water, since the rain was so cold, but it kept splashing up into our faces. such joy.

hot shower, cocoa, and a bit of papa haydn on the stereo have made our evening complete.

Tell Lilly I said thanks for the memories of similar times spent with my daughter and her mom.
do you know:
"mother may I go out to swim?
yes, my darling daughter,
but hang your clothe on a hickory limb
and don't go near the water."
Did you notice that only twobrain and David C. are the only guys who commented here?
Hugs from Auntie G to Princess Sea!
I really like those pine needles dripping pearls of water. And I can hear the soft effervescence of the rain-dimpled water just looking at those pics of lillie swimming while it showers.
Here, yesterday, some humdinger storms swept through. I was driving on the highway and did a little hydro-planing (surf's up!). Nature is a wonderful thing.
I hope you're printing and keeping hard copies of all these writings and dispatches. Yes, you are. Aren't you?
lots of rain, she keeps asking for more rain to swim in. we talk about nature and clouds and weather but she really just wants rain.
carl - i think you're her biggest fan, no?
thank you, everyone! yes, KR, i need to print these out. or, have a publisher do it for me. haha.
You know what I admire the most about you darlin'? The fact that you can find such great joy in such simple things. What a gift you have, Jessie! This article was just another example of how you see things that so many of us are to busy to even notice! Beautiful!
And thanks for connecting me with Jackie's article on immigration. First person narrative like this can change the way we view things. I think so often of Dead Man Walking and Sister Jean's saga.
I just love how you create memories from special moments with your photographs and stories -- thank you for sharing them with us all again!
You have such fun together, it's not only refreshing to see -- but what a "refreshing" activity!
