she got a little hummer (like a harmonica) and practiced while relaxing in the hammock.

ed took her kayaking....

she got lots of presents...

and she blew out 4 big candles on her sand castle cake...

and later that night, after all the feasting, we went to lake michigan and saw the fireworks. there is nothing like seeing the world anew, through a child's eyes. each firework was excitement personified. she claimed some as 'hers' - and gave us each some, as well. we perched high on a sand dune, and dug little shallows with pillows to lie down in, covered them with quilts, and laid back and watched the show. it was glorious.
