lillie's medusa

lillie has been fascinated with medusa lately. we've talked about her non-stop, and she's even thinking about how she could do the snake hair for a halloween costume.  just today, i had to tell her that perseus kills her (before, i just said that she was a bad guy ) because when we google image searched, there was a great statue of perseus, holding her head.  she was so sad to hear that medusa died.


here's a picture she drew, of a very colorful medusa, and a crying person who got too close.

next up - minotaur. we've been playing minotaur on the bathroom rug (which looks like a maze) and creating a maze outside, with lawn furniture. she has now seen images of him, and is thinking of how to draw him, i know she is....

Lillie Has a very good sense of colour and for making things look as the actual thing. Tell her she is very talented and that she should keep drawing. Good colour scheme too.

Lillie is very artistic. I like that after learning about something she draws it and adds it to her repertoire of imaginative play.

thank you, everyone! i was surprised by this one. i was trying to downplay the bad guy stuff of medusa, and she got it. kids know things, don't they??

What wonderful activities you have for her! She is becoming better educated in some ways than many college studetns I'be worked with. You are an impressive mother.

Jessie, I love seeing Lillie's mind evolve right before our eyes. Her art is a window that allows you to look inside her head. You two are a wonderful pair. I shared art experiences with my daughter too. I think Lillie has a great future in store.

Break out the ball of yarn (or string)! Ariadne, was it, who was the clever one who thought in advance?

Also, I"d leave off the Icarus myth until lillie's a bit older. Don't want her making leaps from the top of the dog house or anything with bedsheets of wax some sunny day!

KR - too late. she makes flying leaps all over the house. thus far, no broken bones. i daren't tell her abt icarus. she'd strap on her fairy wings and GO. yikes!!! thanks!

What an imagination she must have and quite the developing artist! the perspective of drawing the crying individual upside down and then Medusa colored so that WE will not be turned to stone viewiing her! Frame this and hang it for future reference!

Jessie you need to be nominated for Mom of the Year! Surely, we must look into that. I am the lucky owner of several of Lillie's drawings and I want more - I want them signed when she learns to write and I want to keep collecting them until they are hanging in the Gugenheim. renda - she's light years ahead of me. i keep trying to put new things in her path!

betty - will try procrustes. she does like gory, sometimes. as long as she can be like scooby doo and figure out it is real people behind the scariness.

colleen - i will frame this one. it is one of my very favorites. :)

mariana - i am just learning from her, she inspires me every day. i try to facilitate her learning and experiencing. crazy, eh? will send more. she loves you!!
