I know some people dislike George W Bush's (GWB's) particular religiousity. Some people dislike GWB for the people he has allied himself with in order to get elected. Some people dislike GWB because of the positions he has felt compelled to adopt (anti-abortion, pro-death penatly). Maybe some people are nostalgic for the 1960's and the non-violent resistance, the anti-war sentiments of the early 1970's.
Am I missing reasons? Why do you not like GWB?

I don't think GWB has a God complex, he may happen to believe he is living in the end times, as does Ahmedinejad, as does Al Gore, but that is not to say that he thinks he is God.
I used to not get why people had such a difficult time accepting Bill Clinton, but he did have flaws. GWB admitted he made mistakes in his reckless youth, it's good to see that the religious right accepts his reformed person.
GWB (or Cheney if you prefer) may remember the seeming indecision that Carter was in when the Iranian embassy was taken over, and diplomats held hostage; it was probably important that they respond to terrorism against the united states. Afghanistan. Afghanistan could not support a hundred thousand US troops though. It could not support divisions of Armored Cavalry (tanks). We needed to stay ready. And we are engaging the terrorists before they come over here and try to destroy our infrastructure and innocent lives.
1. He did not win the election in 2000; he stole it.
2. The ethics of the '04 election are questionable as well.
3. He lies, chronically.
4. He has taken a record surplus and turned it into an insurmountable debt.
5. He is setting back environmental issues by 30+ years, all in favor of $$$$
6. He thinks global warming is "made up"... duh.
7. He has turned our allies into enemies.
8. He has instigated terrorists, who may have hated us before, but now hate us and want to do something about it.
9. He ain't all that bright, pal. Every business he has ever been involved in has failed.
10. He is a draft-dodger who sends other people's sons and daughters off to a war for no purpose.
11. He thinks the Constitution is a little booklet he can play around with at will.
12. He uses scare tactics to get Americans to turn the otjer way while he does this.
13. He is in the pocket of big business.
Is that enough?
Serina, you do not sound unintelligent. You sound sensible.
And, Marty, Bill Clinton lied about an extra-marital relationship, resulting in his wife not trusting him. GWB lied about WMD, sending thousands of young people to their deaths or severe disability. He cheats the American public by allowing his friends to get multi-billion dollar gov't contracts without benefit of a legal bidding process.. He lies about the need to bug US citizens' phones and monitor their internet use.
He may not cheat on his wife, but gee, that doesn't really matter, does it?
And mostly, because I'm a teacher, I hate No Child Left Behind. I read an education article here the other day. The author drew an eerie connection between the Tim LeHaye charismatic "Left Behind" series (drek, in my humble oppinion) and the Bush educational initiative. How about that?
Tomorrow is his birthday. He's calling himself Boomer as of late. Boomer. I'm thinking about eliminating all W's from my spelling.
And look at how Carter has dedicated his life to helping others. He deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a noble and honorable humanitarian.
and elmo added the one that truly sickens me, and made me feel ashamed for us.
Happy 60th Birthday, Mr. Bush!
And that's it. Thanks for your article.
What I do hate is all the political game playing and a congress that cares more about getting big buckets of money for re-election campaigns, than they care about their own constituents. I don't see how half these people get re-elected all the time. That goes for both big parties. Maybe we should have term limits for them?
Did Marty feel the same way about Clinton, or was he calling for his head in a handbasket?:
This looks like a forum for the Republicans to come beat up on the Democrats.
And the funny thing is I never see the Republicans stand for anything beyond marching lockstep over the cliff with Bush and company.
Jorday, I guess your idea of patriotism is never questioning anything, totally in disregard to what our constitution created. No one here has objected to the war in Afghanistan. There was no U. S. security reason for going to war with Iraq.
I can assume that your hatred of Clinton was unpatriotic, since you say we must never disapprove of our president.
Jordan, I wondered about your point of view, and then I saw in one of your contributions that you claim to be 15, it is okay, life will get better as you age.
Cheryl, I too dislike the hypocrisy inherit in "No child left behind."
But each of us has to play with the cards we are dealt.
GWB's base of support was the religious right. He appointed Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court, but she could not take the heat so she left the kitchen. He then added Roberts and Alito. He may get to name a successor to John Paul Stevens. That would shift the court wildly.
Saddam Hussein did not deny having WMD, it helped his stature among the region of Arab Adders (snakes). We are bringing stability to the region. I do not know if we will go into Israel to try to keep the peace.
Nancy, money makes the world go 'round. GWB spoke to the hispanics in their language. He probably lied then too, but enough voted for him, or else chose not to vote.
As to some of the reasons to topple Saddam, he was a bad man, his sons were rapist playboy killers, we needed to excercise our military might. The Islamists (Al Qaeda) did not respect the toothless tiger.
I drove by JFK Middle School in Northampton, MA on July 4th. I looked at it and thought to myself: "There's no way in hell lots of schools will be named after this one." I think that sums it up. If you're not a good enough president to have things named after you, than what's the point?
