While perusing Polinaut archives I came across the 06/27/06 entry Moving up. Moving out.
In it, Bob Collins bemoans the fact that politicians are asked - and answer - the same questions over and over:
But more and more I find I can learn a lot more about people by asking them questions about real life. Their real life.
Collins suggests asking tougher, more personal questions such as "What is it that made you decide that the job in Washington was worth time away from your children?" as well as potentially telling ones in, "Do you mow your own lawn? How often? What do you think about when you're mowing?"
What real life question would you ask a politician?

Will the education establishment ever be happy with the level of funding they receive? Will there be a time in which they wouldn't ask for more?
Why are you willing to spend thousands if not millions of your own money to win a job that pays less than a 100 grand?
