If John A. 2.0 gets upset by Stephanie Brail's comments against the war and her excessive use of a few incidents to paint all soldiers, sailors, air people, and marines as bad people, perhaps if John A. 2.0 could push an ignore user button, and then have all of those articles sent to an idiot file, that might moderate some of the outlandish behaviors here on Gather. That should at least assist John A. 2.0 from contributing to Stephanie Brail's attempts to score points. It should probably not block separate messages, although perhaps there could be a ban user from contacting me button as well, to be used by some people with too frail skin who shall remain nameless.
I too was bothered by Stephanie Brail's anti-warrior comments.
I'm aware that there will be another release of gather coming up, maybe these features will be added at that time, or there may need to be another revision before these features can be added, but it might help to moderate outlandish behavior, if people could have their work tossed into an idiot file.
Maybe there should be rules such as the idiot file only ignores a user for a monthlong period, and then if said user persists in being idiotic, they can be re-added to the ignored users file. Behaviors change, and people generally will moderate their behaviors.

i had read some of his thread before and had no idea what was ahead..look even if there was an incident, my god ,does she ever place all the soldiers in one boat and sinks it happy 4th of July! how can people live with so little appreciation for American soldiers that wear their unifiorms in 40 degrees and do their duty, what's so great about sipping your latte in starbucks and type in hate e. mail to the army?
i am far from militant but really ..how ungrateful, negative attention can one person be?
i would say that if you ignore her, it is the best solution , don't go near her venom and then she won't spread it around!
much strength to you and enjoy 4th of JUly!
Others just aggravate me because they are arrogant, or yeah, stupid.
Good article.
Peter, it's awesome that you've heaped on praise. Hopefully the gather gurus would consider this constructive modification for inclusion in a future release.
Maura, I just noticed the block button in the messages. I'm not sure if I always saw it there, so maybe the modifications won't have to wait until a major update. But sadly, maybe I just did not pay attention, and it was always there.
Although, if it was, why didn't someone just tell kathryneo to make use of the block feature? I know, she would say that I'm only doing bringing this up because I want to save others from falling into Dr Oza's trap.
Nancy, Echo, Thank you for supportive comments.
Sigalit, wow, 40 degrees I assume that's celsius. It's not so much that it's hot over there, as much as it is that your buddy's get hurt when a roadside bomb goes off, and many soldiers are able to be saved due to the Battle Rattle that they wear ~40 extra pounds...16 kilograms of body armor/helmet.
Some of the injuries coming back from Iraq are amputations, traumatic brain injuries, and various other forms of polytrauma--multiple complex injuries. The rehabilitation departments at some VA hospitals are doing a Yeoman's job (where's that darn dictionary... ahh, wiktionary well, maybe it fits--intending excellent-stellar-very good job) in trying to get these soldiers "back" from dark places indeed.
I'm startled by the resolve that soldiers show to keep improving.
I'm giving your article a 2, actually, if only because I want an ignore feature myself (the low rating is for dragging me personally into this yet again. Because GOD FORBID someone should have an unpopular opinion around here).
I would be happy if certain people ignored me, since they'd probably be the ones I'd stick in my ignore section as well. I regularly get people requesting me to join their networks and groups (about 5 invites today alone, SINCE the controversial article was published) so I can assure you, I will not miss the people who want to ignore me whatsoever.
I can see the points that making gather a more diverse place is ultimately better for the whole, and if ignore is allowed, people will tend to gravitate toward similar thought pattens.
Congratulations on feeling more included.
