I don't have suggestions, I want some.
You see, I've found myself jaded by the steady stream of crap that passes for cinema these days. Most Hollywood studio movies I've seen recently remind me of the old saying, "a camel is a horse designed by committee". The creative process has been removed and has been replaced by a homogenizer that dumps in a tepid mix of stale ideas that represent what recent market analysis says people want to see. I don't want a damn camel, I want a horse . . . er movie.
Want to know what's new in theaters this week? Don't look in the paper. If it's summer, there is a 90% chance any new release will fall into one of the following categories: a remake, a sequel, a video game/television show made into a movie, or a CGI cartoon. How long until we get the ultimate Hollywood treatment - a computer animated remake of a sequel? C'mon Dreamworks, you know we're dying to see Young Guns 2 remade as a cartoon (according to recent marketing data, at least).
Like most of America, I usually wait until movies are out on DVD instead of going to the theaters. I covet my Netflix account almost as much as I do my internet access (almost). With network television going into summer hibernation, my movie viewing time has been greatly increased and I need some help to fill up my Netflix queue.
I don't want to poison the selection pool by telling you too much about my movie tastes. I can watch just about anything if it has a good story. I will tell you that I currently have Rear Window, Layercake, and Serenity at my house for viewing.
So Gatherians, what movies should I get next?

Can you tell what a huge nerd I am?
The World's Fastest Indian, I remember wanting to see thiss one when it first came out but it dropped off my radar. Thanks for reminding me.
Freedomland also sounds intriguing. Anything with Samuel L. Jackson is worth a look.
Thanks for the suggestions
Great article Chris!
By old Jack Palance movies, you're referring to anything pre-Cops and Robbersons, right? ;) I'll see what Netflix has of his out there. (Didn't he play Gengis Khan?)
Second Hand Lions, another one I wanted to see but forgot about! Thats on the list now. Thanks!
Or if you feel like you want to go the way of the musical, definitely go with 'The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas'.
