On this episode, I'll take you on a visit to one of the hotspots of Boston's Italian North End: Mike's Pastry.

The North End is the place to go for food in Boston. With almost 90 restaurants packed into a neighborhood smaller than some parking lots, some may find the number of choices overwhelming. But no matter where they eat dinner, thousands of people get dessert at Mike's every day.

My guest is Guy, an employee of Mike's for 25 years. Now the Executive Chef, he knows just about everything about the place.

In the North End, there's a great divide. On one side of Hanover Street, there's Mike's Pastry. On the other is Modern Pastry.

I'm of the Mike's Pastry camp—I dream of chocolate-dipped cannoli and raspberry thumbprint cookies. I'm salivating just thinking about it...

I've lived in/around this city for about 7 years now, and finally just went to Mike's for the first time a few months ago! It was closed every time I tried to go. FABULOUS, Fabulous cannoli. I've heard there's a better place to go, and I suppose it's the Modern Pastry place Laura recommended, but Mike's is certainly a fun North End treat!

But now there is a new bakery on Hanover Street - Lulu's. They have cupcakes that remind you of the hostess cupcakes but has their name on it. Lots of mini cheesecakes, chocolate desserts with marshmellow on top. Muffins for breakfast. Everything is made right there on the premises. Lastly, they serve various hot loose teas, cappucinos, crimson berry ice tea that is delicious (and I am a total hot tea toteler) as well as ice cappuccino.

Try them out.. you won't be sorry!
