Nature Stories Podcast: A Map of the Sea
Produced by Chris Brookes for Homelands Productions
In this sad, insightful, moving podcast, Chris Brookes examines the ways in which Newfoundland's fishing towns are adapting to a world without cod. He also tackles the complex relationship between cultural tourism, cultural survival and memory.
But most importantly, this is one of the best written radio pieces I've ever heard. Chris Brookes is a lyrical, beautiful writer who manages to communicate what's been lost without reverting to sentimentality. And that's no easy task.
