ODE TO MY AUNT

A simple "Thank you" is not enough to express the way I feel.  Our visit meant much more to me than bed and another meal.  A trip "back home" is not complete unless I see my Aunt.  I'd like more time to reminisce, regretting that I can't.  Remembering how it used to be back in my childhood days, my thoughts go back to "on the farm" and our more simple ways.  We were so close, we had great fun, and time stood still for me.  I guess I thought it would always last.  But time marches on, you see.  In later years you were always there to lend a helping hand, to give advice when I needed it, and help me take a stand.  I looked to you as a model wife to keep my head on straight. To guide me on the road of life as I strive for the pearly gates.  If I could have your faith in God, and concern for our fellowman, your determination like the little engine that said, "I think I can!", I know my life would be enhanced and true happiness surely mine, if the lessons I learned from watching you withstood the test of time.  I hope you'll always be there to bake me a pan of cornbread.  But more important is the fine example of the kind of life you've led.  You are an inspiration to all whose lives you touch.  and I'll always praise, respect, admire, and love you very much.
