George W. Bush, commenting on the situation in Iraq to a joint press conference during his two days of talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, stated that, "Not everything has turned out the way we hoped."

Bush went on to say that World War II was "...an unfortunate little misunderstanding," that the sinking of the Titanic "... sure must of messed up all those folks' vacations," and that the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake was "... a pretty good example of involuntary urban renewal."

Blair spent much of the afternoon briefing Bush on his meeting in Baghdad earlier in the week with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, who said that his forces would be able to take control of security in Iraq within 18 months. "I'm way more optimistic than that," said Bush. "I'd say them fellas could take over in as little as a year-and-a-half."

(sigh) I'm thinking Blair probably had to tune his earpiece to some other station to keep him awake and properly sober-faced.

Wow Dannielle, I didn't consider the old earpiece ploy - Bush is getting prompts from Uncle Karl, while Blair is listening to reruns of Upstairs/Downstairs.

Bush also semi-apologized for stupid remarks he'd made like "dead or alive" and "bring it on" yet still managed to place the blame elsewhere. "Some people missunderstood my remarks" he claimed.

Thanks for the article, Mike. And the picture. Blair looks empty and Bush looks like his usual foolish self. Carl, I don't think anyone misunderstood, I think Bush misspoke. If that quote is the semi-apology, I don't believe that is anything near an apology. However, even if the man dropped to his knees, sobbed, and admitted to everything he has done, that apology would be meaningless unless he resigned and took his whole crew with him.
