I was walking down Broadway
just passing the scene
when the Devil drove my way
in a big limosine
and he said, "Hey, honey
I could sure use a smile
and I've got money
to make it worth your time"
then he flashed me some cash
and gave me a wink
so I said to him brash
"I'm not who you think"
and I walked away
with my head held high
cause I cannot be bothered
with that kind of a guy
life is funny that way
after that I decided
to pick up the pace
and head for some coffee
at a poetry place
and I walked up the stairs
to a balcony above it all
there was an indiginous man
he was drinking a tall
and the smoke from his joint
filled the air around me
he asked me "what is the point
of your moving poetry"
I looked at his face
and I shrugged and exclaimed
"I listen for my muse
I don't care about fame
life is funny that way"
so I went to the show
hoping for some relief
when the guitar solo
agitated my grief
the star on that stage
held my heart in his soul
my spirit engaged
I went out for a stroll
and I was just passing by
and saw him standing there
and he turned and said "hi
come along if you care
so I said okay
and one thing lead to this
we were walking alone
he stole from me a kiss
life is funny that way
