Some of you may remember my article:
"How to Promote Gather Outside of Gather"
and the offer I received for my efforts. /viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976745195
But - for those of you who don't - a quick recap:
I invited the news director of WAMC to join gather.com and consider a news segment on the gather phenomenon. While online here she read some of my articles on travel in Spain and asked me if I would record them for airing on the radio.

In Bilbao, Spain, Tapas, By Any Other Name . .(my first Gather article)

My Bilbao articles were written about a press junket organized by the Spanish government that I went on last November - as a substitute. That was my second trip of the year where I filled in at the last minute for some scheduled journalist who had to cancel. (The first trip was to Barcelona, in April.)
The Good News is - I drove to the Albany studios of WAMC (Northeast Public Radio) last Wednesday and recorded my travel articles on Bilbao, Spain. As soon as I know when they will be on, I'll post it here - I was told they would air sometime this Spring and Summer. But, their website: www.wamc.org will have the Roundtable schedule posted a day or so ahead, and you could click on it to find out when, and listen online.
The REALLY Good News is - when I told the Spanish Tourism office about my on-air essays, and that WAMC reaches 7 states and southeastern Canada, they invited me on another press trip. This one as a planned guest! The trip is operated in conjunction with the Government of Portugal. I'll be their guest in Madeira for a few days, then travel to the Canary Islands as a guest of Spain! I'm leaving June 2nd. Look for articles and photos about both countries to be posted here over the course of the summer.
One final kicker. At the end of my recorded articles the radio announcer will read my bio:
When Richard Frisbie isn't writing about his travels for regional publications, he runs his bookshop, Hope Farm Press, in Saugerties, New York. His articles, with photos, can be found at www.gather.com <-only a true gatherholic would do that
The Moral of the Story - remember to promote gather outside the gather community. You never know what will happen when you do!
FYI - these links open in a separate window, the way gather links should

Candida, good word - perspicacity. But not one that rolls off my tongue when I'm trying to record an essay. I stumbled on "prerequisite circular" a few times before I admited my essays were written to be read, not heard!
Thank you both for the kind words. It really is exciting.
Don't get me wrong, the trips are GREAT fun, but it is all work, and I'm "on" 24/7 until I return. Follow som of those links to read about them. And, Good Luck!
