DEAR Dolphi,
   
My name is GEORGE WILLMAS and I work with  CREDIT SUISSE BANK LONDON  .We had a customer(Mathews Dolphi) that had a deposit of US$3.5M (ThreeMillion and Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) before he died in a plane crash with his wife and only Child about 4 years now (January 30, 2002) and since he died, we in the Bank here have been expecting his/her next of kin/relative(s) for the inheritance of the deposit, but none has surfaced. 
  
The policy of the Bank however stipulates a limited time period for such inheritance to be made or the fund will be written off going by the record of the incident, the time limit for the claim is closing up. In this consideration, I am contacting you to seek for your kind understanding and sincere co-operation to claim this nheritance for our mutual benefit in view of the fact that you have the same LAST  NAME with the deceased customer. 
  
If you can stand as the next of kin in this project, success is assured because I am in possession of the personal life jacket of the deceased which contains every needed information about the account and the deceased and you and I stand no risk of any kind because I have enough information to support you in claiming the inheritance. 
  
The roceedings of the transaction will be shared 50% each after expenses are reimbursed. Kindly indicate your willingness through the alternative email address provided below and we shall proceed with the initial step for the claim.The entire project is expected to last for about ten working days.

Dear Mr. Willmas,

I am saddened to learn of the unfortunate extinction of the entire family of Mathews Dolphi in a plane crash.  However, I appreciate your efforts to
trace me as the next of kith and kin.  The substantial fortune left behind my Gregory uncle will greatly help me to lift myself up from the present state of utmost penury that I am living in.  A reasonable percentage of the fortune can be worked out as recompense to your pains and efforts.  I would also like to donate a small percentage of the fortune as charity to any cause closest to the heart of my dear demised uncle.  However, I would like you to understand beforehand that the tough circumstances that I have lived in do not permit me to be generous on this count!

Meanwhile you should complete all the procedures and documentation without losing any valuable time.  You may also advance me a small sum of $10,000 forthwith in order to enable me to tide over my circumstances and to allow me to live a little more comfortably until the entire deal is accomplished.  This would enable me to devote my full attention to the case with a completely free mind.  This would also ease my monetary restraints to bear minor expenses like internet charges and international call charges.  I assure you that I will repay you more-or-less double the amount you advance when I get the entire fortune in my hand.

Nice one, Dolphi. I have read about these scamsters being coerced into a viisit to a nudist colony, to meet their 'victim' who posed as a nudist. There is an interesting exchange here http://www.yrad.com/convo1.htm

But it is best to ignore them. These guys are real tough.

Thanks for your comments Nancy, Max, Rajendra and Priscilla. I have received several other emails soliciting help in devious ways. Some of those messages are crafted very well. I went to Rajendra's link and saw some more interesting exchange there. It appears this type of conning game is widespread. It is sad that some people fall for it. Recently I read one news where a lady executive was cheated by two Nigerians. The fraudsters were trapped by the police when the lady complained as they tried to extort more money out of her. Many such cases may be going unreported. The very prevalence of this kind of email spam shows that there is money in it.

Incidentally, so far there is no response from George Willmas to the reply I sent on May 4.

You said it well, Brandon. I ignore and delete most of the con mail.

But usually I listen patiently to the insurance telemarketers. In the end I tell them that I too am in the same business and gained much from their persuasive techniques. They hang up without telling me that I wasted their time.

Too funny Dolphi, and I may use it myself sometime. I used to have the address of an FBI(?) site to report these things, but don't remember it now. I had read an article that it would help investigations in catching people like this. I used it once, a long time ago.

This happened to me long ago but I asked quite nicely for half the fortune and that I would assure him the other half for informing me, I thought they would go for it but never heard from them again. What a shame, it would of been a great venture to accept such money and live life on the fun side for once:) lol! funny! Too bad many other fall for such scams:)
The porn ones, I ask for a picture,address and phone number and Social Security to make sure they say who they say they are, geesus, they do not respond!! LOL! Yes porn babes asking for money!

Jose, nice of you to share your experiece here. The first time I heard of such con mail from a friend was more than 10 years ago. Now it appears it has become very common. The greed for easy money is the catch here.

I am glad you took time to check this, Umara. Yes, most of these con mails originate from source in Nigeria. Of late they have become a little more sophisticated, like the Japanese Free Lotto scams.

I appreciate your well crafted reply to suspected scamster Williams. But suppose you had co-operated and allowed him to go ahead with the claim, what would you have lost? You could have made it clear that you would part with money for expenses incurred, only after you received your share of the legacy. Am I being naive? Was it your personal info you were trying to protect by cutting him off? Anyway, you have provided us with a most entertaining read.

Nice to see your comment, Pesi. I get several such emails. If you respond, the next thing they ask is processing fee. So I preempted that move by asking money from the scamster instead. I never got a reply.

That is the best reply to a con artist I have ever seen! Good going.

I got tricked by a Phishing scam recently. It's pretty embarassing since I am a technology expert and spent 6 years at Symantec working some of that time on security software. No harm done, I deleted the compromised Paypal account. Silly me. THe morale of my little tale is if contacted by someone you DO have an account with, go to your browser and log on through their regular website, versus EVER clicking a link in their email.
