What a lovely breath of fresh air.
Discussing the debate over the civil right to enter a particular government-defined contract, Laura Bush told likely candidates to back off, and to keep it out of the Constitution. Yes, folks, she told Bill Frist and others to cut the crap, and keep the definition of marriage out of the United States Constitution.
In a "Fox News Sunday" interview: "I don't think it should be used as a campaign tool, obviously …. It requires a lot of sensitivity to just talk about the issue — a lot of sensitivity."
Wait – did I just hear the First Lady call Bill Frist insensitive? I hope so. Dr. Frist – he's a physician, remember? – should have better bedside manners.
Same-sex attraction is a normal human variation, ladies and gentlemen, with increasingly understood physiological attributes. Most heterosexuals, like me, know that. Most of us aren't offended or terrified that some human beings prefer their own gender. Most of us understand that same-gender attraction is part of our normal, harmless differences, like skin color, eye shape, and hair color. Dr. Frist should read his medical journals, get that, and move on to real issues if he wants votes.
"Physician, heal thyself." Why do you need a librarian?
Openly same-sex partnerships are here to stay, ladies and gentlemen. We must give them the right to enter the same beneficial contracts that we heterosexuals enjoy. Oh, and stop blaming "activist judges" for seeing reality first. They also saw the reality that people of African descent were due the same rights as those of Caucasian descent. Were the "activist judges" wrong then?
In the meantime, thank you, Mrs. Bush. Even if you don't realize that you called that great political healer, Dr. Bill Frist, insensitive.
Thank you for being correct instead of "right."
