I was recently amazed to discover that most vegetables and seeds that you have in your kitchen can actually be planted and will grow into foods you can eat! This has launched me into experimentally growing things like potato, onion, carrot and tomato on my apartment balcony.
It all started when I found a few potatoes that had "eyes" on them and they even began growing leaves so I put it into some soil and wha la it grew into a bush. I did some research and found out that the bush will flower, once the flowers are all blooming and beginning to die I can dig up my potato and find several other potatoes that I can harvest.

Next I discovered some onions that had shot up stalks and I also planted those. I also planted a carrot that had begun to grow again and some tomato seeds that were growing inside a tomato I was going to eat. It seems like everything in my kitchen is screaming "plant me"!!!
I began to research this type of "low budget" gardening and found out
many things like garlic, turnips, ginger, peas, beans, avocado and more can be easily planted and grown in the comfort of your own home! This type of gardening is often times cheaper and easier than buying already started plants from the garden center or trying to grow food from purchased seeds.
I will keep everyone posted on the progress of this experimental gardening and I will post photos shortly also. If you have experience or knowledge about this type of gardening please post a comment and tell us about it!!
