Science On Ice yet again

    It takes a special breed of researcher to eagerly fly to the center of the Arctic Ocean once a year, land in a 15-ton airplane on eight-foot-thick ice atop 14,000-foot-deep waters near the North Pole, then dive beneath that ice in 29-degree water to collect instruments brimming with data on ocean conditions.
    Jim Osse and Keith Van Thiel from the University of Washington are two of that breed, and they just returned from the shifting sea ice at the warming top of the world after completing another monitoring project that should help clarify causes and consequences of Arctic warming.

Revkin has traveled to the Artic three times since 2003, and he was the first New York Times reporter to file stories and images from the North Pole. In the book I am reading Mr. Flannery mentions this things happening or going to happen to a greater degree. The effect of this melting will affect the gulf stream and the hope of a reversal will be gone.
I hope we can find a solution soon. I live on a farm in Virginia and talking to farmers we have not had enough rain for this time of the year.
