Boy, I was so happy last week when I found my pile of acorns! It's been a hard winter and I was getting really way too famished to do much climbing.

Where did I find them? Well, here in this tree hole next to Old Town restaurant. I remember gathering them up last fall , but for the life of me, I couldn't remember where I put them.

No, you know, I had to really scavenge come about February, and getting that corn out of these new fangled bird feeders is more than difficult.

I've had to learn to crawl upside -down just to get to the feeder. That Mr. Adamski put some kind of collar on the pole too. It was extremely difficult, but I am a persistent cuss, they say! I was real proud when I mastered that obstacle.

hey, look! I'M NOT INTO PICKING GARBAGE LIKE THAT SCOUNDREL RICKY Raccoon, so I just can't understand the disgust Mr. Adamski has for me. He even was yelling at me . Hey, I don't eat trash like Rick! And he puts the corn there for me, I thought.
what the hey! I've got to find a better system for this acorn storage. It's just getting way too complicated, what with having to climb up and down with mouthfuls of those morsels.
I'm kinda thinking about the house across the street that has a little hole in the porch. I've been over there and it could make a good cache hole, plus there's a possibility for a little nest too adjacent to the food.

You can't get toooo comfortable, now can you?

Thanks for submitting this to Nature Stories. I truly enjoyed both the photos and your narrative.
I've never seen a black squirrel before, great photos!
I think squirrels are cool, except when they jump out in front of my motorcycle.
Then, I think they suck.
I think this one is plotting to jump out in front of someone...
Jess--did lillie like it?
Clare--thanks for the corrections. the "to" was a typo, but I left the other because the story is meant to be read aloud in Mr. Squirrel's saucy voice. He's into slang a bit.
Mary--Yes we have red squirrels who are the most pesky! The grey squirrel is the same species as the black squirrel. Then there's the fox squirrel, though I don't see them too much.
Aileen-- usually the black squirrel is the dominant color in breeding. But it hasn't spread across the midwest completely.
Beryl--yes, I envision this one being read out loud in a very sassy voice
Larry--I have another set of pics I took the same day last week, of seagulls and plan to write another in seagull voices.
Eric--those darn things better watch out for you coming down the road.
i think for kids what would be even better is a dialogue, with mr. squirrel an say a cat...that always adds a bit of drama ...
great photos too! what camera do you use
i need to update mine..would love to do animal stories too..
Tanja --glad you enjoyed it. I also have some wonderful seagull pictures that same day and I'm mulling over the dialogue yet.
