If you are interested in being a part of the member team for recommending a new rating and comment system for Gather, then please read on.
A team has been formed to assess the weaknesses and strengths of the current system, and to define what we, as Gather members, would like to see in a new method on Gather. The goal is to obtain a consensus on this issue, and to bring forward our recommendations to Gather management.
To be a part of the solution to this problem, please join the Member Discussion and Chat Forum group. There is an article established within the group to begin obtaining this consensus.
Please see my comments in the article stream for more information, and help be a part of the solution..!

You can comment or not. Rate or not. When you rate, as it is now when you comment, the receiver can see who you are. It may not be necessary for everyone to see who rated and how, but the receiver has access to the information. I have no idea what the development issues woiud be for Gather.

We have people practicing writing skills, when they post they should be able to click a button to request assesment.
We have posts that are opinion to be shared, submitters have to take the punches. but the writer could request writing skills assesment, and
that should be separate from the button that says Agree/disagree/stinks.
This is where the real problem is anyway. A well written work getting Bombed by a reader who disagrees.
Number of comments should continue, as is marketing is everything. . .
Oh yeah, and actually make the points worth something.
