I have found a few useful resources in my travels around the internet that I'd like to share with those of you involved in the Food Writing biz.
The first is Writers' Market (www.writersmarket.com). An invaluable resource to any writer, the Writers' Market provides up-to-date info on editors, publishers, agents, and writer's guidelines for thousands of publications. It's fully customizable and even has a submission tracker to help freelancers keep an eye on which submissions & queries have gone where and when.
I am also a member of the Food Writers' Group on Yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Food-Writing/). Here, and at her independent site (www.food-writing.com), Pam White provides a myriad of great tips for the beginner and the accomplished wtier alike, as well as some wonderful leads that have really panned out for me. The first 2 national magazines I landed came from leads Pam provided.
A tangentially related site is www.travelwriters.com, where you can get great leads on travel stories, even find leads on free press trips all over the world! I've been on couple of these (my last junket was to Puerto Rico!) and they can be a lot of fun.
Here are a bunch more links, which I picked up from the above-mentioned food-writing.com
Visit these food sections. Research what newspapers are publishing. Write!

Good job.
I really enjoyed the two press trips I've been on, and have another scheduled in a few weeks. Where did you publish your Puerto Rico article(s)? I'd like to read them. I really liked your NYC/Stone Barns article, and look forward to more.
The puerto Rico article hasn'r been bought yet, but I have high hopes that Fervor Magazine or Intermezzo will bite.
Pamela - "not a food writer"? Why? Don't you eat?
I am a member of Chef's Collaborative (a professional org) and Slow Food (an educational org). I have been a member of a few orgs like IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals, for those who are unfamiliar), but I have not found them useful, and they rarely have the emphasis on local, sustainable cuisine that is so important to me. They seem to be a lot more about career advancement and self agrandizing. Since my career is going well and my ego is already far to big, I don't have much of a need of those orgs.
I am looking into some orgs like the guild of food writers and the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (http://www.ifwtwa.org/htmlpages/aboutus.html). Anybody out there had experience with them?
