Will I still be here
tomorrow? What about you?
Or taken away?
A few disappeared.
No lawyers, no news stories.
Will they take us next?
The ones that are gone
were Muslims. Were they bad guys?
Who knows without trial?

These are just the ones we know about. The violation of anyone's right to know what they're being accused of, to defend themselves, and to have a fair trial is something we should all be worried about, because once that right is gone, anyone could be next. With the Bush administration using the excuse of terrorism to spy on their political enemies, I worry that anyone who speaks out against Bush could be next. And if they are, how would we know? Would the papers cover it?
One thing I know for sure, our family has made a pact that if anyone ever disappears, everyone who can, will raise as much hell as possible until the disappeared person is home. (this is based on the fact that I was kidnapped by my father as a small child not just general paranoia.)
One of the things I find the most horrid is the fact that many of the Guantanamo prisoners were actually released to go home as innocent, and are still sitting in prison months later. Why? Because our government hasn't "figured out" a way to get them

I haven't yet figured out how to insert links here...so this is the best I could do. Check it out.

To insert a link, you need to know a bit of HTML coding, but it's not too difficult. You need to type an opening angle bracket (<), then a href=", then your link followed by a closing quotation mark, then a closing angle bracket (>), then the text you want to appear for the link, then another opening angle bracket (<), then /a, then a closing angle bracket (>). I'm not sure how to explain this more clearly without having it just come out as a link.
Anyway, thanks for your comment. I can't believe they're saying they "can't figure out" a way to get to detainees home. I think it's probably just that they don't want the detainees talking about what goes on there. I bet they will hold them until after the election, or possibly after the 2008 election.
About those treasonous reporters. I don't know how the right wing does it. Dana Priest was late on reporting the flights in Europe, in addition to the fact that European news was reporting on people being rendered almost a year before any US papers picked it up.
By the way, this is how Nazi Germany started. Declaring certain groups were bad guys, then taking away the rights of everyon by exploiting that fear. Don't give in to the fear, Ashley.
What does Ashley think about our most recent recent laws based entirely on religion. The anti gay, pro biblical teachings in public schools, etc.?
And this very real fact that the U.S. now has 1.2 Million registered Muslim
voters.
Does Ashley think only good christians are going to make the profiling, and security and morality laws?
Does Ashley think Muslims need to be prevented from participating in U.S. civil life , because the 9/11 terrorists were all Muslim?
So Ashley tells Astro Girl to "get real" about profiling and other civil right loses, they are only Muslims.
I don't understand how not advising a community via public notification of an arrest, that a member of that community is suspect. It is not only against our U.S. laws, it is disrespectful.
Has it occurred to you that many of them were afraid to speak out at all after 9/11, even to denounce the attacks, because a lot of people were treating all Muslims like criminals? I bet you didn't get a lot of Japanese Americans being very vocal in support of the U.S. during WW2 either. They were probably in support of the U.S., but afraid to call attention to themselves because of how their fellow citizens might treat them. Just a thought.
