i watered down some of her washable tempera paints (red, blue, and we made green). we prepared the paper by weighting it down at the edges so it wouldn't blow away.
lillie took her little wheelbarrow around the yard and picked up things she thought it would be interesting to paint over. we picked a bunch of dandelions, some pine needles, and some long grass.

then we laid them on the paper and SPLATTERED the paint all over them. it was such fun. lillie played on her swingset while it dried. then we picked off the nature items and looked at our paintings.

not quite jasper johns, but we're getting there.

Awww, these are so cute. Looks like great fun on a nice day. The paintings look a lot like Jackson Pollock's works, too. Thanks for sharing.
Jessie - I've made lots of mistakes as a parent, but one of the things I take great pride in is encouraging creativity in all my children - and applaud your active efforts to do the same. They have so much fun, just making a mess and seeing what they can come up with. Danielle still requests "playdough days." We cook up HUGE batches of home made playdough and then she'll construct castles, mansions, amusement parks - you name it. I'm picking the stuff out of her hair and my carpets for weeks, but it's sooooo worth it!
sotheby's? hmm....great idea!! i love it! i save everything, anyway....
heather - there is a homeschooling group here - sure you knew that. not much activity, though. we should get things going! lillie's only 3.5, so we're not doing TONS. but we're going to unschool, i think that fits with her very well. it is so much fun! i'll go check your article!
Looks like your little one had a wonderful time! It is amazing how little it takes to make a child smile.
