Kit sashayed a little as she walked though the door to the bar. The band seemed to be playing just for her, as Duffy lit her cigarette and brought her the usual Cabernet. She smiled at him and checked out the crowd from the mirror behind the bar.
"She's the Queen of the Silver Dollar. And she rules this smoky kingdom. Her scepter is a wine glass, a bar stool is her throne....."
Their new singer was really good, and Kit was glad to be here.
She tugged on her slightly stained silk blouse to show more cleavage. She liked the way the soft bar lights sparkled up the glitter she'd sprinkled on her bosom, shoulders and legs. The flicker of the fake candle bulbs made the lights dance right there on her body. Damn she felt sexy!
She downed her wine and before she could order another, Duffy sat down a fresh one nodding to Kyle in the corner. She grinned at him and lifted her glass to toast him across the bar. He toasted back and nodded.
Taking out another cigarette, Kit saw Jack was there with a light and she smiled at him as she blew smoke over his blonde head.
"This singer is just right for these guys, don'tcha think, Kit?" Jack exhaled smoke and words together.
"All the jesters flock around her trying to win her favor. To see which one will take the Queen of the Silver Dollar home....." the singer went on.
"Yeah, he's perfect. I like this guy a lot better than that red head last week. Hope they keep this one."
Jack asked Kit to dance. "I'll need another drink first, Sugar," she drained her glass.
Jack motioned to Duffy who was already holding the wine.
"Here you go, Sweetheart."
Kit drank half the glass down in one gulp, then Jack grabbed her hand and snaked with her through the tables and chairs onto the dance floor.
The mirror ball was intoxicating enough, but added to the glitter on her body it was enchanting. Smoke hovered over them like some kind of foggy spell, and Kit shook her groove thing like nobody's business. She liked the way her little skirt hugged her curves, but stopped just past her bottom with a little extra flirty material that teased as she moved. Obviously, Jack liked it too, because although he is a chest man, tonight she caught him staring at her butt.
Now the band was playing the blues, and Kit did the bump and grind. She could see all the men mesmerized as she danced, and she felt like royalty. See, she knew she could have her pick of the guys tonight. She was that good.
Kit was still dancing as she made her way back up to the bar.
The band had just struck up a slow one when the door opened, backlighting HIM.
He was gorgeous. He strutted like a king with his long dark hair and black piercing eyes. His billowy shirt was opened to his waist and he wore tight black jeans. Kit stopped a moment to breathe him in. OH, he was nice. She grabbed a smoke, and there he was with a light for her. She smiled, "buy you a drink?"
Duffy had two wine glasses and the man said, "I've already ordered for us both. Cheers!"
They drank up and next thing Kit was following the man, hand in hand to the dance floor. The band was playing another slow one, and HE held her tight, whispering in her ear as he caressed her backside. He was speaking Spanish, and Kit didn't understand. Neither did she care, as she was truly the Queen of this world of abject opulence, and was having the time of her life.

btw, I LOVE your new icon, the clock tower. Is it a mill, perchance?
One question. If "The band had just struck up a slow one when the door opened, backlighting HIM." how did she know that he had black piercing eyes?
A foggy spell for us, not just the guys on the dance floor. Good work...
Oh, Carl...... perhaps I should explain. He doesn't STOP at the door, and if she's watching him, believe me she notices everything as he makes his way toward her. But you are certainly correct in questioning how she sees details as he is backlit. So I shall consider how to rephrase this so it is more obvious he's moving. Thanks! I do so appreciate your attention to details which can use improving.
Thanks for your kind comments, all.
KR, I'm glad you catch the subtlties.....
CHEERS!
Kathryn, Mona, Stephen, Carl, KR and Nathan.......... welcome to my world.
Maybe we can all drink in this atmosphere together again sometime?!?
EXCELLENT WRITING!!!
OH, and Kathryn, the clock tower is one of Goodyear's here in Akron.
