E&P writes today on how "God Shapes His Foreign Policy."
Sayeth our George W. Bush:
I base a lot of my foreign policy decisions on some things that I think are true. One, I believe there's an Almighty. And, secondly, I believe one of the great gifts of the Almighty is the desire in everybody's soul, regardless of what you look like or where you live, to be free.
Am I the only one who sees trouble in running a foreign policy on what God tells you?
And who regulates the voices in this guy's head?

It seems to me that claiming "God told me to" is a great antidote for "the buck stops here"!
And the voices, most likely a malfunctioning ipod. Or is it an igod?

Thanks for the post Sean, I think, but than any explanation . . .
Nothing else I have to say on this topic would be appropriate.
The article is titled, God shapes . . . did NOT say anywhere that God runs it. I think that is a mischaracterization, and whether Dem/Rep . . . . that kind of rhetoric kind of inflames. Maybe it is just me, who knows. To me the shaping of policy can come from anywhere and everywere. The decisions come from men and women. Where am I wrong? Thanks?
That's fact.
Look at the 30 years war. Look at the Inquisition. Look at Darfur. All in the name of God. If you don't think it can't happen here, well, it can.
We had a thing called the 'enlightenment' a few centuries ago that I believed had settled the question of God in western politics.
I guess the enlightenment was too French.
No one wanted Bush to be a good president (not even 'great'--good would've been ok) for America any more than I did, though I didn't vote for the faker. I had a bad feeling about him as a lot of people did--and sometimes you just don't want to be righ--correct.
As a reluctant astrologer, I had studied his chart in 1999--and I said, God help us. Now according to Bush He's helping him, but if so, why do I feel adrift in a sea of Constitution-undermining, rights-invading, corruption- exalting, and pocket-lining?
And whose pocket would Jesus be lining? His kingdom was not of this world, but Bush is wallowing in his own earthly kingdom at the people's expense, with our borders dissolving and secret laws passing in the dark of night.
And the cheeky monkey pretends there's nothing wrong with this picture!!
Whatever we might say of the communists or fascists programs of the 20th century, their economic and political models were not so opaque.
