A Pictorial View of My Family's Ineffable Chagrin

The overwhelming failure and embarrassment of our family is to have pictures of so many "important" American vacation top photo ops and yet lack the significant icon of our own state - Paul Bunyun and Babe the blue ox.  And now that they have been sold into slavery, we may never have the opportunity to be photographed with these celebrity giants.  There are no words to express our ineffable chagrin.  Therefore, pictures will tell the story.

I'm very sorry that I couldn't find our photo of the giant Jackalope in Mitchell, SD.  I'm sure these memories will stay with us forever but if only we would have taken the time to travel north and view Paul and Babe before it was too late.

Very entertaining... I love these kind of photos. We have a huge boot in Seattle which was a fast food restaurant, as well as huge hat you actually went inside to eat. Nice photos!

There's a Paul Bunyan campground on a river in Northern California where I'm from, and I went camping there with some friends. The statue of Paul Bunyan is massive, I couldn't even begin to guess how high, and it's positioned at one end of benches arranged in a square around it. It looked so deliberately designed for worship that one of my friends led us in a long prayer that began "We dig you, Paul." That's a Paul Bunyan picture missing from my collection too.

I have led such a sheltered life! Our family vacation photos show dad napping in front of the tent, or the three of us yournger kids on horseback.

Love these, Barbara, but I too like the Abe and the little boy the best. In Stamford, CT about 5 years ago, they had painted cows all over the city. Artists painted and decorated the cows all differently. It was interesting.
