It is indeed a terrible disease, but not a hopeless one. I believe it is a brain allergy like Celiac's disease. In Celiac disease the patient is allergic to a protein called gluten. There are psychiatric symptoms in Celiac disease. These symptoms may be due to glutamic acid flooding the brain.
