Your Government is doing its best to force the price of petrol up for the rest of the world while the American public is largely sheltered from the actual price of gas. Your Government softens the blow to such a degree that you seem willing to waste petrol as a reflex reaction.
Just up the road from where I live is a Service Station owned by one of your multinationals. Today they were selling unleaded petrol at $1:36 per litre. (3.785 litres to the gallon works out to be A$5:15 per gallon).
Aussies have mostly abandoned gas guzzlers in favor of four cylinders. When it's not important we don't go. And this way of life will soon be headed your direction.
We have lived with these sort of gas prices ever since this most recent bout of lunacy in the middle-east began. Most Aussies are now paying between twelve and thirty percent of their income on petrol.
Aussies have been warned that the price of petrol will likely reach $2 a litre before the end of this year .(more than $7.50 a gallon).
Every motorist on the planet – outside of America – is subsidizing your petrol addiction.
So don't whinge now. Save it up for next year when you might have something genuine to whinge about.
Save your whinge for the time when you have to pay the actual world price instead of sitting in la-la land behind a huge trade barrier.

For people like me - on a disability or other pension - the escalating petrol cost is reducing our standard of living and quality of life. I have to be more prudent about traveling on my motorbike, which is hardly a petrol guzzler.
But the rising cost of petrol will also impact on everything else that I need to buy - the scenario is hardly rosy.

I apologize for our war lord. We don't all agree with him, in fact, 50% never did.
How do you pronounce whinge? We say whine.
We call anyone who won't stop whining a 'whinger' and every kid is warned not to 'whinge' several times a day.

Sooo...I suck it up. I may have a gas addiction but at least my Jeep sees mud compared to those driving Hummers all over town that don't ever take it off the highway. *shrug*
I have an off the grid house...so I figure my gas addiction is okay considering I don't use coal gennerated electricity to heat my home, cook my food, heat my water, and flush my toilet. Solar is the wave of the future if only it was not so expensive.
That's okay, you still live in a beautiful area.
But if you think other countries are supporting our gas addiction...that is just plane BS. Other countries have free healthcare, here in the USA we pay for the uninsured to seek medical attention every single day. If we had to pay $7 a gallon plus healthcare, plus taxes to support helping other countries 'get on their feet' it would just not happen. I make shit $ and could not even imagine if I had to live alone in la la land while taking hard advantage of the $3 a gallon gas that all of the other countries paid for.
from todays paper Petrol to hit $1.45 a litre
