Carefully tend the garden,
protect her from the weather.
She's only out of season,
not gone away forever.
She amazed us with her beauty,
bloomed in vivid colors,
graced us the summer long,
standing taller than the others.
The sun doesn't shine on her today,
her colors are starting to fade,
forgotten in her broken stage,
she slowly withers away.
Cover her now, keep her safe,
she's in a dormant season.
Her roots run deep into the earth,
searching for new meaning.
Her tears will turn to showers,
if you love her while she's there.
Soon she'll blossom again,
when spring is in the air.

You are such a wonderful writer! You write equally well of sadness and of sunshine, or protesting and dreaming......
Thank you!
the warmth and beauty of the setting sun.
I have been cleaning up and prepping for this years growth, mine included! In Peace! Ken
NANCY - my one-track mind is seeping through - timing is everything ;-) Thanks for reading and for your kind comments.
JOHN - ohhh I like that - beauty is wasted on the youth.
KEN - thanks for tending both gardens ;-)
Magi
I suppose we do all go dormant at times. Maybe we should all send out an SOS - "protect me while I'm here" so others will remember to keep us going.
Obviously a poem with "layers".
NANCY - thanks for seeing it both ways.
CHRISTINA - glad I could reunite you with your grandma for a few seconds - that's a real bonus for me.
When I go dormant, I get covered over, too.
Your words bring such nice visuals and warm memories for me. Maybe a garden is a place that becomes a portal between was is living and what is coming alive.
MICHEALE - I thought you might see a bit of yourself in here. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
,
I love the way you have tied the beauty of nature into the feminine, nurturing priciple. We tend the garden, and the garden renews and refreshes us.
take shape on it's own and in time while
you care to love and wait!
Wonderfully versed Sandy !!!
I'm stalking your poetry, in case you haven't noticed!
"Cover her now, keep her safe,
she's in a dormant season.
Her roots run deep into the earth,
searching for new meaning"
We all need "the love to blossom again" in times of sorrow and hardship. Without it we would all wither and die. This would make an excellent song also.
Lovely!
but a drop D chord on a guitar would be a soulful way to go with such a wonderful piece.
