It's all about her peeps.  Perfectly uniform, these collections of bunnies and chicks are stacked like sugary corpses everywhere she shops -- colorful confections  prominently displayed inside their cellophane coffins.  Their pastel silence quietly compels her to hide them in her wheelchair.  She'll eat them later, before her evening insulin.

I like how the last line--actually the last word--pulls everything into perspective. I've always found peeps a bit frightning, as well--although I have no trouble with Cadbury eggs!

No, but it sounds like a fun new holiday activity. Some people create Peep statues, and others like to dress them up. Keep laughing . . . .

What's really sad is that after tomorrow, the Peeps will disappear until Holloween when they're recycled into marshmallow ghosts. It's just not the same.

Peeps! My Mother LOVES peeps. She used to put them in my Easter basket although I didn't like them and didn't understand why the Easter Bunny would stock up on something I didn't like...I grew wiser with age.

Lisa, some things just can't be easily explained. But obviously I'm not the only one who likes them, because theye are EVERYWHERE. Nowdays they've even expanded into the Christmas, Halloween and Valentine's Day markets.

My theory: They contain crack. Just like thin mint girl scout cookies.

I'm with you with the thin mint girls scout cookies. Same with their Savannah cookies...yum. Peeps I don't get, and I know they are creeping into other holidays as well. Quite frankly I think peeps should be the white shoes of candy confections...after labor day they should be banned.

The funniest part of this thread is watching Lisa's cat asking "peeps??" "peeps??" in endless disbelief. Then she tells of 'creeping peeps' invading other holidays.

One of my sons likes peeps, but I can never remember which. (It's something I only needed to know once a year, and now not at all.)

One son has no interest in candy at all.... I think he's a changeling.

I take the chocolates and cave-in the bottoms to see what's inside. If it's colored goo, it's probably supposed to be fruit-flavored = gross.

Unsurprisingly, I like nuts. I think that's why I'm on this thread.

What is going on here? I come home from work, grab a Dove Bar and open up the computer to find you kids playing in the archives.

Peeps. Yes I like them. Very much. And I was so intrigued by Donna F's April comment that I microwaved one of the suckers. It looked like the marshmallow confection was suffering from the Elephant Man disease.

Circus Peanuts. No. Never.

Candy Corn. The thought of them gives my brain a rash.

Valentines Chocolates: Yes, but only good chocolate. Even those stuffed with fruit jelly. Divine.

Girl Scout Cookies: Tagalongs. I'm powerless over them.

It was an original Dove Bar with dark chocolate and french vanilla ice cream. Yum.

Not sure what a "circus peanut" is, but my Dad liked French burnt peanuts.

I think my favorite treat is either a Cadbury Almond bar or chocolate-covered cashews. (we call cashews 'sneezes' here.)
