So if you don't know all the cool ways to use Google to find out interesting things, a quick example. Say, because I am a geek, and want to know how many C++ files are readily available for view on US Military web domains, I go to Google, and type the following into the search box:
filetype:cpp site:mil
Result: about 500 hits! and I few choice ones in within the navy.mil space.
Or - For all MS Word documents referencing "Encryption" on military sites:
"encryption" filetype:doc site:mil
Results: 800 hits.
---
How about on US government?
filetype:cpp site:gov
Result: 50,900!
---
Okay - here is a fun one! Ready -- cause this is cool - give me all Microsoft words documents about Iraq in the CIA's goverment domain
"Iraq" filetype:doc site:cia.gov
Only 58 hits. Bummer
---
Moral? There isn't one - accept perhaps some of you will see that there is alot more you can do (by learning just a few operators) with google for more complex searches.
List of advanced Google operators
Another quick example - building on the previous examples -- I want to search for reference to "will evans" only on the gather site:
"Will Evans" site:gather.com
Result: 536 hits (at 9:03pm EST)
Notice you don't need to use AND, or + because those are assumed.
And a last one
"Web 2.0" filetype:pdf site:org
This will find all Adobe pdf files within top level domains .org, which contain Web 2.0

I can't believe myself, but now I'm going to try some cool google searches.
You are begging for guests and not just on Gather....I love you for opening this up....nice move to readily available voices and documents in the more secreted domains that really are there for public viewing.....widens the scape and eases the access.......I'm ridin' on the e-freeway now, guy friend.
Applause, applause, applause!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
