I don't know about you, but Ace Young has been one of my favorites this year on American Idol. His abilities with falsetto set him apart, and when I heard that this week was going to be the music of Queen, not only was I excited, but I thought - wow - Ace will surely pick a great song for his voice.
Then I tuned in to Tuesday night's broadcast (actually via my DVR'd version, where I can fast forward and rewind as needed - ah - such a lovely luxury!) and heard him give a so-so rocker version (so not his style) of We Will Rock You. I was SO DISAPPOINTED.
Now, I am afraid that my sweet, handsome, talented Ace may have signed his ticket home! I hope I am wrong! I really thought he should have chosen the song Kellie Pickler chose - Bohemian Rhapsody (which she totally did awesome on!). It would have been more fitting to his voice and style, in my opinion. Perhaps it was already taken, however, there are dozens of other options that would have fit more than We Will Rock You.
What do you think? Do you think Ace chose poorly? What about everyone else? My guess for bottom three would be Bucky, Ace, and Katharine. I don't think Katharine was bad, but I think people may be thinking she is a bit too theatrical.
I think the bottom two will be Ace and Bucky, and I would prefer to see Bucky go (though he is a NC boy). I like Bucky's sound, but he does not know how to enunciate. I have tried to understand the lyrics when he sings, but his accent comes through too much. It is something he can learn to overcome.
Both Kellie and Bucky totally sound like the people I grew up with! LOL - I never had that thick of an accent - I swear! I about threw myself off the couch when Kellie said she did not have an accent! But seriously, for me, I worked in call centers. People would ask where we were located, and when I would say where, they would ask where my southern accent was. But then again, my husband fell in love with me for my accent (well other things too, lol).
But I digress - on with your opinions! What did you think about Ace and the other contestants for the Queen Music week?

Elliott I think is a good singer, but he has a hard time with personality coming through, and often seems a bit awkward on the stage, I think. He showed a lot of his personality on the results show though and maybe he will pick up more votes and begin to do better. I think he, like Katharine, gets a bad rap for maybe being too talented and a bit theatrical.
Paris has a awesome voice too - but I think her age may do her in before the final three.
I think wise song choice from Ace can bring him back into the competition and into the top three. Another poor song choice though will send him packing.
Chris I think is staying true to himself, but getting more and more alternative, which will lose people in the end more than gain. The American Idol audience is not full of dead set heavy alternative listeners. People like me who are more moderate alternative rock listeners, liked him a lot in the beginning, but are losing interest as he gets too into the heavier stuff. Oh - and what was with the eyeliner Tuesday? He was originally part of my top three, but I may be bumping him for Taylor, Kellie, Elliott, or Paris.
So my original top three was Chris, Katharine, and Ace. But I am leaning on Chris maybe possibly moving out for me, and I would not be surprised to see Ace go. I really think Chris is going to have a hard time with Rod Stewart's soft forties and fifties music. It may do him in. Ace could rise to the top again with a good song choice. Katharine and Elliott will be in their element!
I love Rod Stewart by the way, but have not listened to any of the CD's they mentioned. I would have loved a show on all his music! But then Ace might have gone wrong with choosing something like Hot Legs and we'd be sadly watching him go home, so maybe this is best! I'll just listen to my CD of Rod!
Goodbye Bucky - best of luck buddy!
And I can't believe you said that! I was jus telling someone that very same thing today, that I loved Kelly's performance but I really expected Ace would have sung Bohemian Rhapsody, as it has a falsetto voice in it.
