I tried to upload a PNG file with a screen shot from Wiffiti that I thought was great and wanted to share... but Wiffiti screen shots are PNG files and Gather said only JPG is allowed. The image I want to use as my user icon is a GIF, but apparently I can't use that either. JPEGs are the right format for photorealistic images, but they're not the right format for other things (such as computer screen shots). And GIFs, while not really being best for any specific use, are extremely widespread.
What's the rationale for only allowing JPEG images?
