Heady Tongues
Professor Y. Egghead (AKA, PhD, Boffin)
and his astral travelling friend
Swami C. Transcendental (divinity studies, failed)
were
after quaffing a carafe or three
engaged in a frank and unfettered
exchange of inebriated
and tad muddled views
on the compelling merits
of logic and magic mushrooms
viz. the meaning of life.
As such carefree and
fellow travellers are want to do
in the fullness of time
and as one does when
the electricity fails and
there is no television
or internet dating service
and no cell phone because
the telephone company's terrorists
disconnected the service in firm conviction
that charity begins and ends at home.
The Professor's well lubricated throat
gushed an eloquent and
self-intoxicating lecture
if in a somewhat slurred voice
between refills of uplifting
hospital port for
strictly medicinal purposes
you understand
that God
rest his poor tortured soul
had a somewhat warped sense of humour
when He inflicted sensibly taciturn Man
with unreasonably emotional Woman
and bestowed some of them with minds
to fathom out the meaning of life
a matter far too heavy for the masses
and best left to PhD students
and their much wiser mentor Professors.
As dear old Professor Y. Egghead
paused in his sparkling oratory
of sheer and pure brilliance
to sip deeply from the font of
wisdom found in his freshly filled
glass of heady and fruity
white wine with
a most excellent and sublime nose
to tease and excite the
educated and appreciative palate
Swami C. Transcendental
took the golden opportunity
even though in a mildly
not on the planet
state of meditative daze
to observe
in a loving and spiritual way
that too much
talk and thought
resulted in paralysis through analysis
and galvanised into action
by his own celestial words
he chewed
another magic mushroom
just for the road
you understand
and without as much
as a sip of logic
floated serenely
to the ceiling.

I thought I'd better post something to show that I do have my tongue in cheek at times - I'm not always crying in my beer, so to speak.
It was fun to write.

The shape was most intentionally, helped by the formatting difficulties to do with the cutting and pasting of the unformatted text from Word.
