Suitcase dreams
lose ground
to suitcase realities.
Moving, that is.
Last November
sugar-honey-love-muffin
and I
moved north
twenty miles or so
the last of our belongings
now demanding a journey
to a Somebody-store-it.
Suitcases of books
boxes of clothes
in to the truck
out from the door
up the road
to a five by ten
their usefulness dubious
but trashing, no can.
So, coffee for starters.
Advil for later.
lower back pain developing
as the load grows greater
truck bed dipping
up the road I wander
if belongings had legs
I sublimely ponder
they'd march to the truck
stack themselves in the bed
then drive up the road
and walk into the shed
but reality is here
as I pull through the gate
if suitcases had wings
I'd have been done by eight
A.M., that is.

Oh yeah, been there done THAT!
Loved that your books landed in suitcases and clothes only warranted boxes - a sign of well aligned priorities!
Thanks everyone for all the comments. I'm really glad ya liked it.
I like how you refer to your sweetie as "sugar-honey-love-muffin."
