"Gram, wait until you see the material I just got at Glen's!"
"Oh honey, it'll be perfect. Look at those oranges"
"Well, can we cut it out now?"
"Cut what out?"
"Well, the muumuu, of course"
"We just made one last month out of that gauze material with the blue flowers."
"I know but this one will have a different feeling and I want pockets in this one so I can wear it in the garden. I'll even be able to bring in a dozen tomatoes in its folds when I finish weeding."
"Well, clear off the dining room table. We'll cut it out there. I'll go find the yoke pattern. You wanted the round neck one, right?"
And we did cut out my fourth muumuu that summer when Gram stayed with us. She was famous for making muumuus. All she needed was the yoke pattern and she had two of them she kept in an old envelope in her sewing bag. There was a round neck and a square neck. The rest of the pattern was just by guess and by gosh. Actually Gram didn't do much guessing. She did it all by gosh.
Gram sewed like she drove, fast and hard. She could finish a muumuu in about 2 hours from cut out to hem. And this one was done with the set in pockets on the seams, and hemmed in record time. That orange with green flowers muumuu was my favorite. Was it any wonder? It was the 70's, man! We loved those colors, and with my long hair to go with it, I was groovy in the garden that summer!

I love your Grandmother story! I wear bright colors wrapped around and tucked just so....no sewing. But the downside of that is that once a biggy wind came along on the boat and ripped it right off!
