[Arma virumque canto- Virgil, opening line of the Aenid "Arms and a man, I sing..."
*Cant: intransitive verb Etymology:probably from Old North French canter to tell, literally, to sing, from Latin cantareó more at CHANT ]
****
Pissss..ist......Hey! Shushhhhhhh!!
I have a poem, listen to me.
I would wish to utter, listen to this,
More so , I have a lyric; I have a rant
I would wish to..........
I would........, but....
I cant. *( sung; ring bell)
instead,
I can't,............... *
Since, for fear,.................
National Security.....
Homeland Security......
Safety's sake!
Hey!
there someone there?...........................................
Someone reading?.........Listening?,.......
Whisperinnnng,.......
Pisssssssst,
You have a poem. Would I like to hear it? Can you trust me?
Shushhhhhhhh! Pissssst.
Hey!
They will report you
Pissssssst. Shushhhhhhhh. Pissst. Shushhhhhhhh!
A Secret Song! You don't speak ....
I Can't. *
I don't know, so.........
Pissssst......Hey! Shushhhhhhh!!
instead,
I can't,............... *
for fear,.................
Hey!
there someone there?...........................................
Someone reading?.........Listening?,.......
Whisperinnnng,.......
Pisssssssst,
I have a poem. Would you like to hear it? Can I trust you?
Shushhhhhhhh! Pissssst.
Hey!
Pissssssst. Shushhhhhhhh. Pissst. Shushhhhhhhh!
A Secret Song! I don't speak, ....
pissssssssst,...............
pisssssssssst,..........shushhhhhhh
few would sense the song,
but,
maybe you?
I won't speak this Chaldean blasphemy, this hidden outrage, this profound revelation!
I won't utter the inexpressible,
I won't use speech for this...............
!
Shushhhhhhh
Because the knotted strings of Truth, capital T,
is beyond my ken.....,
I can't. *
Because Nature, capital N, flies around, above, forever, Eagle's talons to grab it's Victim, capital V, to wrest it from Life, capital L........,
I can't . *
Because we have ears and do not hear.....,
I can't. *
Because the everything is yes and no, neither this nor that,
At the same time precisely this and that,
and at the same time, not-this, and not-that!.......,
I can't. *
Since I, too, only know the same caged bird........,
I can't. *
Since there's nothing to say......nothing.......and......
everything!.........Everything's impossible!.........So,
I can't. *
Since I just don't know!
I just don't know!
I can't. *
Everything seems impossible!
I can't. *(continuous ringing of the bell)
I can't.
I can't, I can't I can't. * (cease bell-ringing)
So, since words alone fail........I simply cant.

A block of wood may be substituted for the bell, to be struck at the same asterisk-points in the performance. When reading aloud, the Performer ought to avoid any extra (for lack of a better term) 'Poet's Affect' and simply use the percussion for any added emphasis. Also, it's acceptable, as well, to hop around the room like a pony when reciting the verse for added emphasis on the 'canter-pun'. Other possibilities may be appropriate also for performance.
