The original version of this was called Wave Lessons. It was a small little square exercise that I painted. I wanted to see if I could paint waves using photoshop. At that time, photoshop was new to me and I found it hard to use. On the other hand, I just spent a lot of money on it and had to find a project to help me learn how to use it. This was it.
Talking with my mom, I found out that she hung it up in her house. I was embarrassed. She liked it, but it wasn't the type of quality for hardcopy display. So for Mother's Day, I repainted it (at a much larger size) and in a 8 x 10 dimension, so I could easily frame it. I had it customed framed in a green frame. Apparently it matched her new living room perfectly. She loved it. So I renamed it Mother Wave...not for the surfing venacular, but for my mother.
Although I've spent most of my life landlocked, my times near the ocean have been wonderful. There's something powerful and beautiful about waves. I may not have captured it's power, but I hope I've shown some of it's beauty.
