How much longer can I take this?
The sun beats down relentlessly,
Searing my skin.
Beads of perspiration roll down my face
Stinging my eyes.
I feel the rivulets trickle down
Between my breasts,
Soaking my blouse as it sticks to my back.
My tongue is hungry for the cool taste of water.
My throat is parched.
The pavement ahead is shimmering
As heatwaves rise from the surface.
My eyes play tricks on me
As water appears on the surface of the road.
The hills in the distance look so close
But go on endlessly.
Will I ever reach them? Will help come?
Can I survive this heatwave?
Oh, Lord, help me to have the strength to go on.
With thee, all things are possible.
