My wife bought a box of Krusteaz waffle mix. I don't know where she heard this rumor, but rumor has it that this is the best Belgian waffle mix on the market. They were horrible.
I don't blame my wife. (Then again, she doesn't always read the recipes). Anyhow, the following day, I decided to make waffles in the new waffle maker she bought. I didn't want a dismal failure like the previous day (but I didn't want to waste the Krusteaz either), so I made a batch using a half recipe of the Krusteaz and a half recipe from Bisquick. Then I added a teaspoon of lemon (like I do in my pancakes) and a couple packets of Splenda.
My wife loved them. The best waffles she's ever had. So, I've made them several times since. I tell you, if you don't care about your health, and you have a waffle maker...there's nothing like fresh waffles in the morning.
I posted the recipe at

Why is this article here? Because I like waffles! They're good and good for you. A hint though, if you want to make whole wheat waffles. I suggest using 1/2 part Bisquick whole wheat, 1/2 part regular Bisquick, and 1 part Krusteaz (plus the lemon and sweetner). Otherwise your kids won't eat it.

Gotta run to the kitchen. Thanks, Mike.
I now, like waffles as long as Mike makes them. Now, to teach him how to use the breadmaker....brewhahahahahahaha.
The number of dishes that include a splash or touch of lemon is surprising. Included in fruit salads to keep certain fruits (apples, pears) from turning brown. Used in just about every blueberry concoction or confection.
