Well, why not? I made certain there would be no cheap substitute prizes. At the conclusion of their sales pitch, we would receive a scratch off card that would reveal our prize.
We've not had a vacation in decades. My husband's truck has nearly 4,000 miles on it. Our TV is a 10 year old hand me down that has been through a fire.
Any way you look at it, we win.
We drove 40 minutes up the highway, got off the exit and could not find the place. I was grumpy and starting to complain. This was no good, and I was behaving badly. I looked at my husband and said, "Let's forget about this whole thing. Why don't we go for a walk, so this little trip doesn't completely suck?"
He agreed, and walk we did, though we were dressed for a seminar, not a hike in 12degree weather.

I drove to the newest segment of towpath trail, where I'd been on a volunteer clean up this past autumn.

The sun was bright, and we found such wintery beauty.

I thought it was so cool the way the ice had fallen off the tips of the tree branches to speckle the snow atop the canal.

The water was frozen in places and still flowing underneath, revealed occasionally in small holes in the ice.

There was brilliant green colour on the canal
and the shadow contrast of the trees on the snow was just stunning.
We laughed at the irony of the PPG no trespassing signs on the side by the river...... the most scenic, of course!

Oh, and we saw our first robin of the year. Heard it first, actually, then spied him high above us. Spring is near!

As we headed back, I told my husband this time spent with him was much more precious to me than any stupid car or vacation anyhow.
His answer to me was a passionate kiss, and we basked in our reward.

My favorite is the third one, but you need to see it large to get the full effect!
