Is This Not Cool?? --Married to an Engineer

Jack is so weird! The TV is blaring away with two different dialogues going, one out of the surround system and the other out of the TV speaker. "Hey, what's going on up here, Jack?"

"Isn't that cool? It's the same program but we're getting the one off the aerial and the other off the satellite feed. It's off by four seconds. Isn't that neat?"

He then fiddled with it more and now only one voice is being heard, but it's not going with the picture. It's the one that has the four second delay. "Is that not cool?"

??????????????????????????????

Is it cool?? I guess.

Of course it's normal. Don't we all do those things? No weirdage involved, just curiosity and ability to make such things happen. Besides, he's my brother-in-law.

It sounds normal to me, though I'm married to an engineer. He likes to derive equations for fun and relaxation while I prefer to embroider stuff. We've agreed not to knock the other's choice of "fun." ;-)

It reminds me of the commercial where the man runs in to his house all excited and makes his wife come out. He shows her how his electric windows on the new car go up and down. She rolls her eyes and goes back in the house. Men are funny. The littlest things make them happy. This was funny, Carol.

OK, I KNEW this was coming - I just knew it! And it was still just as funny anyhow.
My husband would love to do the same kind of thing. He just knows (after 30 plus years) that it would make me nuts. it's not worth it to him if I'm harranguing him about it - which was I suppose a good lesson to learn.

I understand all of this perfectly. That said, it's still a bit weird. Cool, but weird. I have lots of engineers for relatives. They did plenty of cool stuff, but not exactly this.

Thanks all of you. No, he's not looking for a job. He's a retired radio engineer so this was just up his line. Tomorrow will find him for 2 hours on the ham radio talking to the other retired radio engineers from the state police. Needless to say we've got lots of wires, inside and out, crisscrossing everything!

(Lifts stuffed bear into the air.) "Boo Bear, now you have potential energy!"
(Drops stuffed bear onto the bed.) "Now Boo Bear has kinetic energy!"
