Fox news is busy tonight making bucks from inflated and nonsensical fears about avian flu. So far what? Maybe a few hundred people in several crowded Asian countries have died of avian flu. In the same time period year after year after year tens of thousands have died from malaria.
In the 1918 Flu Epidemic 675,000 Americans out of a total population 104,550,000 died. Truly tragic! This was approximately .646% <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->of the population, which would be equivalent to about 2,150,000 today. Truly tragic! But that was without 'viral inhibitors' and even without antibiotics. Most of the people actually died of pneumonia, which developed because they were weakened by the flu, and not the flu itself. <!--[endif]-->
It is simply irresponsible for any media company to try to be making big money off of sensational scare tactics like FOX is doing tonight. The Avian flu may develop into a big problem. Nile virus may develop into a big problem. Bin Laden may set of a nuclear device in Washington, D.C. John Doe may start the JD Plague. Lightening may strike us all dead! The Moon might fall on us.
