Love: In The Little Things

 

Sometimes because of where we've been before

Those little "love" things are unbelievably big

 

How about picking up the living room because it needs it

Or stopping at the garage sale because he knows I like to stop

 

How about recording my favorite TV program while I'm at rehearsal

Or changing the bed sheets because it's been a week

 

How about recognizing the water hasn't been put out for dinner and doing it

Or getting the chicken out of the freezer because I said chicken would be nice tomorrow.

 

How about getting lunch ready because I'm working in the garden

Or cleaning out my car because I'm going to visit a friend for a couple of days

 

How about bringing me a hot cup of tea when I come in from choir practice

Or sharing the last cookie in the jar with me

 

Sometimes because of where we've been before in life

Those little "love" things are unbelievably big

It IS the little things that count and they mean SO much. It seems like such a simple concept but yet it seems to be missed by so many.

It comes as a surprise to me so late in life that sarcasm, nagging, blaming, lack of responsibilty doesn't have to have a place anywhere in a loving mature relationship of any kind.

it's because of where we've been that we appreciate how to lighten someone's load and why it's so important to feeling self confirmation so that in our time of need when we can't seem to hold it all together we might be comforted that we are not alone in our need so that we have the faith and hope to go on we lighten someone's load so that we feel self confirmation so that...

I just loved it. everyone is so right ,it is the little ,simple things that mean more than anything else.like that cup of coffee in the morning while you are on the computer,or starting the car a few minutes early so it is warm before you even get in,or giving you the last clean towel,or just washing the dishes without being asked. That is all love.

LOL... Somehow when I read it ...it sounds like he doesn't do those little things. How about you cleaning up once in while?!!! I hope he does do those things. It means the world. Still cute.

I have to try this one. I will try to write some this weekend.

Thanks for all the comments. Pam, in the first and last stanza I tried to say that I had never experienced a relationship where the other partner carried their weight in the partnership and that in this one, both of us do things because they need to be done. No game playing or ignoring things, hoping the other will do it. I count that as love because my husband doesn't try to "put one over on me" or "ignore stuff" but thinks of the two of us together as a team.

I love this! It's new for me to be in such a caring relationship too - no game playing and all. It may seem old fashioned but I love the feeling of taking care of each other and that often means paying attention to the little things. You really captured that here.

Acts of service--which these mostly are--rate much higher at times than the other love languages: gifts, quality times, physical touch, and words of affirmation. Clearly acts of service is your primary love language, Carol!
